A Night of Live Music: Jemma Johnson, Riley Marsh & Dring
There's a particular buzz to an intimate live music night, and this one had it from the first song. I was lucky enough to be behind the lens for a brilliant evening of Derbyshire talent, Jemma Johnson headlining, with Riley Marsh and Dring in support.
Jemma is a real joy to shoot. A rising singer-songwriter from Derby with millions of streams and BBC Radio 1 play behind her, she sings with so much feeling - big choruses, lyrics that land - that there was a moment worth catching every few bars. Riley Marsh brought a grittier edge, his folk-meets-alt-rock sound full of passion and intensity that made for some powerful raw frames. And Dring (Chloe) opened things up beautifully, fresh off her debut EP "To Be Needed At All" - heartfelt, honest, and exactly the kind of warm set that draws a room in.
Nights like this are why I love photographing live music: great artists, a good crowd, and never quite knowing what the next shot will be. A few of my favourites from the evening are below.
